Unsung Pollinators of the U.S.
Conservation begins with you!
What I do for the environment
In the process of eating nectar from any of 21 different plant species, my long nose and furry chest become covered in pollen, which I then carry with me to the next plant. I'm also one of the few primary pollinators of agaves. [6]
Because I fly such long distances, I can transfer pollen between flowering agave of different populations which makes them healthier and more likely to keep producing (nectar for me)! [1]
What I do for you
Agave plants are used to make special adult drinks known as tequila and mezcal, which are widely popular around the world. Agave tequilana is harvested and distilled into tequila, and Agave angustifolia is harvested and distilled into mezcal. [3]
