Unsung Pollinators of the U.S.
Conservation begins with you!
My life as a Mexican long-nosed bat
Watch me slurp nectar!
A day in the life...
By day you can find me sleeping in cool caves, tunnels, and old buildings. By night you can find me snacking on my favorite plant—agave.
As a mom, peaceful rest allows me later to successfully locate food for my family. Only my babies and I journey to the U.S. to nourish our bodies with yummy pollen and nectar from a variety of agave and cacti; dad stays in Mexico to hold down the fort. I show them how to hover in flight over a beautiful flower and dig their long, fuzzy tongues in to get as much as possible.
I migrate with the seasons and follow the blooming flowers, so I am always well-fed. [4]

Thinking question:
Why might it be best for me to find food at night?
