Unsung Pollinators of the U.S.
Conservation begins with you!
What is my role in nature?
I am an insect that helps keep slugs, worms and other insects under control. As an adult I sip nectar and while I do that I spread pollen from flower to flower. [6]
The same fluid that makes me glow has been used as a marker to detect blood clots, to tag tuberculosis virus cells, and to monitor hydrogen peroxide levels in living organisms. So I have helped be a detective, to help find a sickness in a human- how cool is that?? [10]
I am also amazing at using my energy! 95% of my energy shows up as light, that's why I am so bright. I only loose 5% of my light to heat. Light bulbs loose 90% of their light to heat, so only use 10% of their energy for light (never touch a lit light bulb - it is hot). [11]

Thinking question:
If you had to choose between eating worms or slugs, what would you snack on??
